With a decade of legal experience and over a hundred trials, Shawn has experience with the following subject matters:

Represented a plywood mill in the defense of a personal injury claim filed by a truck driver who alleged that the mill forced him to drive unsafe trailers and caused him to have an accident. The truck driver demanded $1.47 million due to multiple rib fractures and a collapsed lung. After his deposition, the truck driver voluntarily dismissed his case.
Represented a semi-truck owner/operator in the defense of claims filed by an oncoming driver and passenger who alleged that the semi-truck driver crossed the center line and forced them off the road and into the ditch. Each plaintiff underwent shoulder surgery and collectively sought $284,000. After depositions, plaintiffs voluntarily dismissed their case.
Represented logging company and their truck driver in the defense of a personal injury claim filed by an oncoming driver whose vehicle was crushed by a load of logs when the truck driver rolled his trailer while negotiating a turn. Plaintiff sustained multiple bone fractures, multiple permanent injuries, and incurred over $360,000 in medical bills. Before filing the complaint, plaintiff accepted a reasonable settlement offer.
Represented a property owner in easement dispute where his plaintiff-neighbor easement holder alleged that his right to use the easement was damaged. Plaintiff entered into a settlement, but later changed his mind, demanded a trial and sought over $100,000 in punitive damages, a permanent injunction and over $50,000 in compensatory damages. After trial, to our client’s satisfaction, the court enforced the settlement, which disposed of plaintiff’s entire case.
More About Shawn
Shawn's grandfather, father, uncle and stepfather are all retired truck drivers. While Shawn doesn't drive trucks, he knows about the trucking industry and how it depends upon the hard work of its drivers. With a decade of legal experience and over a hundred trials, Shawn is proud to extend his family history of trucking by defending truck drivers and their companies.
Shawn started working in the restaurant business at the age of 15. To buy his first car, he spent many hours washing dishes. During his summer breaks, he held a second job at one of Portland’s finest hotels, working as a valet, bellman and doorman. Shawn knows about the hospitality business and how it depends upon the hard work of its employees. Now, with a decade of legal experience and over a hundred trials, Shawn draws upon his personal work experience in his representation of restaurants, bars and retail businesses.
Shawn was raised in an insurance defense household. His mother worked as an insurance claims handler for over twenty years at Liberty Mutual and like most parents, liked to talk about her day at work. From a young age, Shawn learned that some claimants had value, while others lacked merit and required an aggressive defense. With a decade of legal experience and over a hundred trials, Shawn is proud to extend his family history of insurance defense by defending insurance carriers and their insureds.
Shawn – great job in negotiations on the last couple of files! I look forward to expanding your work for my company this year.
